April 20, 2016 – HILLSBORO, OR – As part of the Telmate Cares program, retired Sheriff and Director of Account Management at Telmate, Rob Gordon, delivered a $500 donation to pay for a dream Disneyland trip for a little girl who has been battling brain cancer.

The brave girl’s father, Erik Merklin, is a deputy at Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Hillsboro, Oregon, which is also one of Telmate’s technology partners. Donating money to worthy causes such as the Disneyland trip, is all part of the company’s broad-based community outreach program.

3 years ago, Merklin and his wife were told that their daughter Leah, had Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive brain tumor found in children. After years of fighting the disease, Leah’s community and Telmate rallied behind the young denizen by surprising the 6-year-old and her family with a trip to Disneyland – “the happiest place on earth.” They hope the timely trip will help boost her morale as she continues to battle the many challenges that lie ahead.

Gordon, who has a personal connection to Washington County, delivered the surprise donation. “I used to be the county sheriff so I feel very connected to the Washington County community,” he said. “Although this donation is no cure, it’s my honor to give back to a deputy’s family, particularly one who has dedicated his life to protecting and serving his community.”

The Telmate Cares mission is to give back, honor and improve the lives of the people in the communities we serve.
